A STOURBRIDGE historian has explored the development of the town from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages for his new book.
The Origins of Stourbridge, by Roy Peacock, delves into the early history of Stourbridge, Pedmore and the surrounding settlements.
The former King Edward VI College history teacher, said: "I wrote the book over quite a long period. This was partly because I concentrated on completing biographical accounts of important local families. In the last three years I turned my attention to the early history of Stourbridge because I had come to appreciate the fascination of the early history of the upper Stour valley before Stourbridge emerged.
"Having been a member for a long time of the flourishing Stourbridge Historical and Black Country Societies, I have been very pleased by the way the book has been received by them. Oldswinford church members have also been very supportive, especially as St. Mary's is the oldest existing institution in both town and area."
Containing photographs, documents and sketches, Mr Peacock's book costs £12.95 and is available to buy online at www.stmaryschurcholdswinford.org.uk
