Pedmore Technology College and Community School Year 9 student, Kieran Thomas, had his outstanding design skills recognised at the Birmingham City University’s Birmingham Made Me Awards evening at the Millenium Point.

Stourbridge News:

Kieran, and his peers who had also entered the competition, attended the evening with special guests and VIPs to celebrate their success.  Pedmore students took part in the Programme that aimed to deliver design challenges with business experts highlighting where design and innovation is making ‘a difference’ in terms of their ability to compete internationally.  Students have attended a number of events meeting design experts and regional employers and will be visiting employer organisations to discover how design plays a key role in their businesses. The programme has also given Pedmore the opportunity to explore a programme of employer engagement with the highly successful UK business woman, Anglea Maxwell in the near future.
The competition involved designing products for the future around the themes of Live, Play and Move, focussing on sustainability and well-being.  Kieran’s design won a Highly Commended Award for his innovative pressure pad invention that captures energy from movement in the home and converts this into power for household appliances.

Mrs Turner, Director of Communications at Pedmore said” We are delighted with our students’ success and very proud of Kieran's achievement.  As the only Stourbridge school on the Programme and to have reached this stage in our first year, we have exceeded all expectations.  This is one of many projects that enrich our curriculum at Pedmore, giving our students the opportunity to meet experts and employers in a vast range of occupational sectors.  Our students are encouraged to think about the future from Year 7 onwards and by working in partnership with Further and Higher Educational providers and employers we can ensure this happens”.
