A STOURBRIDGE teenager has had the honour of speaking in the House of Commons as he prepares to end his four year term as a member of youth parliament.

King Edward VI College student Connor Hill, 16, was selected to speak at the annual televised UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) debate in the commons on Friday, November 11.

As a member of youth parliament (MYP) representing Dudley, the Wordsley teenager was a part of the ‘Make Your Mark’ Campaign and was given the opportunity to make a speech at the Despatch Box at the conclusion of the debate.

Young people across the country voted for one of 10 issues to be chosen as the main campaign for UKYP over the next year, with the top five debated in the House of Commons.

Each MYP was tasked with collecting ballots from voters in their local area and Connor, who collected over 8,000, was top in the country, securing him the chance to speak.

Connor said: “The Youth Parliament has made me who I am today. If it wasn’t for the UK Youth Parliament, I wouldn’t be as outgoing, passionate and confident about myself and making an effective social change for young people.

“It is with great pleasure that I have been able to represent my constituents over the last four years.”

Connor will step down from his current role at the end of his term in February 2017 to take up a position in the procedures group within UKYP where he will represent the West Midlands with the running of the youth parliament and its campaigns.
