THE outgoing captain of the seniors' section at Hagley Golf Club raised more than £2,000 for the Samaritans during his year at the helm.
Jim Ford handed over a cheque for £2,256.83 to the Brierley Hill branch of the charity after a year in office.
It has become a tradition for the captain to pick a chosen cause to support through a variety of golf and social events through the year - and Mr Ford picked the Samaritans due to a family connection with the charity which provides a listening ear for those in need.
The money raised during his captaincy was handed over to the director of the Brierley Hill branch at the senior section’s annual review meeting last month when Mr Ford handed the captain’s jacket over to his successor Phil Davis.
The handover ceremony has been performed each year at the Wassell Grove club since the late Roy Savin formed the seniors’ section in 1987.
