A STOURBRIDGE-born author who lives in Germany has written her first novel – about a heavily-pregnant woman fleeing a serial killer.

Marcelle Perks, who grew up in Wollescote and attended The Grange School and King Edward VI College, has had the thriller Night Driver published by Urbane Publications.

Marcelle, who is married with two children and moved to Germany in 2001 to live with her husband, has written short stories and non-fiction books in the past but Night Driver is her first novel.

The book’s villain is loosely based on Germany’s most famous serial killer, Fritz Haarmann, who was executed in 1925 for the deaths of 24 young men.

Its unlikely heroine is Frannie, a heavily-pregnant English woman living in Germany, who is a nervous learner driver so she takes to the streets at nights when the roads are quieter.

Night Driver is set to be published on August 2 and will be sold in airport and train station WH Smith Travel stores, costing £8.99.
