ASHWOOD Nurseries will be playing their part in a bid to boost wildlife conservation by staging a string of helpful events through August.

Staff at the Kingswinford garden centre will be advising visitors on how to turn their gardens into a haven for wildlife simply by making a few small adjustments.

They hope visitors will help create plenty of new homes for birds, frogs, toads, hedgehogs, bees, butterflies and other mini-beasts.

On Saturday, August 4, the nursery will be staging their ‘Moth Morning’ from 9am to noon, when visitors can learn about the fascinating world of moths.

Then on August 18, owner John Massey will be staging his charity garden open day, which includes a visit to the wildlife meadow.

The following day, bird ringing will be taking place from 9am to 11am when visitors can get up close to familiar garden birds.

Throughout August, Ashford Nurseries will be focusing on a number of different wildlife organisations.

These include Butterfly Conservation from August 4 to 10, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on August 11 to August 17, RSPB August 18 to 24 and Wildside Activity Centre from August 25 to August 31.

A number of themed items will also be taking place, including ‘Let's Get Buzzing’ which will focus on plants to attract pollinating insects while offering ideas on how to create a colourful and varied garden.

While ‘Give Wildlife a Home’ will showcase a wide range of insect homes, bee boxes, hedgehog houses, nesting boxes, bird feeders and tables together with a selection of bird foods.
