A HOST of football legends will be paying tribute to Dudley’s greatest ever footballer at an anniversary tribute dinner next month.

The Duncan Edwards 60th Anniversary Tribute Dinner will be held at the Copthorne Hotel on Thursday, October 11 where the lasting legacy of the former Priory School pupil will be celebrated.

Ex-Manchester United stars Tommy Docherty, Nicky Butt and Alex Dawson will be joined by Wolves legend Steve Bull, WBA’s FA Cup winning captain Graham Williams and Aston Villa’s former star striker Peter McParland as special guests for the evening.

Players and Coaching Staff from the Manchester Youth Academy and members of the Former Players of Manchester United will also be attending along with a number of Duncan’s team mates from Priory School, Worcestershire Boys and Dudley Boys.

Duncan is widely renowned as one of the greatest footballers of all time but his career was tragically cut short when he died aged just 21 on February 21 1958 – 15 days after the Munich air crash.

A new, lavishly illustrated book – Black Country Boy to Red Devil – will also be launched at the Dinner which tells the story of Duncan Edwards from his Black Country roots and his schooldays in Dudley through to his time as one of England’s most celebrated international players.

Each guest will be presented with a copy of the book which also includes a forward by Sir Bobby Charlton OBE and a wonderful tribute from Harry Gregg MBE.
