A STUDENT from Cradley Heath has been been appointed as an editor of the popular Student Nursing Times.

Ian Unitt, a third year University of Wolverhampton student, will be the editor for the branch of learning disability nursing.

The 45-year-old will be joining five other student editors for the publication who will be writing about their experiences and views.

Mr Unitt said: “I am incredibly passionate about learning disability nursing, and I’m really looking forward to sharing my experiences and views as part of my role as an editor of Student Nursing Times.”

The student nurse spent 20 years working as an inspector on the railway before applying for a job supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.

He said: "I loved the work and the people I helped support - it was the first time in my life that I had a job that I enjoyed and an idea of what my future career could look like."

During his time as a support worker, Ian rediscovered his passion for learning and spent two years studying towards a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care which he passed in 2016.

He is currently in his third year of a BNurs (Hons) Learning Disability Nursing degree with the University’s Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing.
