Himley Cricket captain Greg Wright declared himself pleased with the campaign after his charges finished third in the Birmingham Premier Division.

The Stourbridge Road side finished the season with a comprehensive home triumph against Kidderminster Victoria.

Bowling first the home side dismissed the visitors for 170 with opening bowlers Stuart Wedge (3-58) and Richard Jones (3-31) starring with the ball.

The home side cruised to the total with seven wickets in hand thanks to a solid 69 not out from opening bat Dan Bassett.

Wright was delighted not only with Saturday's performance but the way his team have progessed throughout the second half of the campaign.

He said: "We played well against Kidderminster and it's been a great showing by the lads over the last couple of months.

"If you can't win the the league you still want to finish as high as possible and a third placed finish is not too bad considering our slow start and the seven abandonments we were faced with."

The skipper now hopes his young squad can bottle their end of season form up over the winter as they set about winning the title for the first time.

Wright added: "Hopefully we can take the confidence and belief we have picked up from the latter end of this campaign and take it with us into the 2008 season and have a real go at it.

"Surely we can't have weather like we've had this year again next."

Saturday's clash brought the curtain down on former Worcestershire star Stuart Lampitt'scareer and Wright will be looking out for a quality replacement while he is also hopeful of holding on to the services of fast bowler Wedge.

Wedge's future at Stourbridge Road is now in the balance after Worcestershire released him.
