SELF-PROCLAIMED Queen of Black Country comedy Doreen is about to set sail on a brand new adventure across the airwaves.

The comedic character known as the 'lazy cow', created by Quarry Bank born writer and film-maker David Tristram, has done it all. She's starred in her own stage shows and feature film, got somebody else to write her autobiography for her, appeared in a pilot for a TV show and become a panto star. The character, played by Black Country actress Gill Jordan, also been invited onto the airwaves of well-known radio shows but, not content with that, she's now launching her very own station - Radio Doreen.

Fans are invited to tune in on Sunday November 4 for the first episode of Doreen's Sunday Morning Lie-in which will air every fortnight on the new digital station dedicated to Doreen Tipton.

Irreverent humour, special guests, original music, competitions and special features are promised along with 'loffs' galore on the 'pirate podcast' show.

The antics of Doreen can also be followed in a brand new comedy drama The Tiptons - set in the Black Country - which will also air every other Sunday.

David said: "It's a bit like The Archers, only set in the Black Country, so nothing like The Archers. It follows the fortunes of Doreen and her daughter Trojan as they battle to try and repay nearly two million pounds, from a lottery ticket win that the judge says they weren't legally entitled to. The story picks up from where the Doreen movie left off."

He hopes fans will tune in for "around half an hour of mirth, music and mayhem, Black Country style" and he added: "We want to try and engage with the local community. We hope everyone will join in and support us."

Meanwhile - Doreen's latest stage outing, Doreen's Big Top, is touring the region and is set to stop off in Brierley Hill next week.

A number of tickets are still available for the shows which will run at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Friday November 2, Brierley Hill Civic Hall on Tuesday November 6 and Wednesday November 7 and the Palace Theatre, Redditch, on Wednesday November 14.
