A MARSHAL who collapsed with a heart attack during a Remembrance Parade was saved by the quick-thinking actions of emergency services.

The man, named locally as Tony Marsden, 76, was at the front of the Royal British Legion’s parade in Kinver High Street when he keeled over near the Plough and Harrow pub just after midday on Sunday.

However, policemen and firefighters, travelling behind the parade, were on hand to deliver lifesaving CPR before air and land ambulance staff arrived to take over.

They stented Mr Marsden – who is believed to have suffered a blocked artery – and transferred him to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he remained in critical care as of Wednesday morning.

Henry Williams, a Kinver parish councillor and chairman of the Royal British Legion in Staffordshire, said Mr Marsden had stopped breathing at one point but was resuscitated by emergency personnel.

Mr Williams added: “If it wasn’t for their quick actions, I’m afraid it could have been a different set of circumstances.”

Lin Hingley, who helps to organise the parade in Kinver and recruits the marshals, added: “If he was going to have a heart attack, he couldn’t have been in a better place, as people were there to help him so quickly.”

The parade was cancelled as a result of Mr Marsden’s ill health.
