AN inquest into the death of an 88-year-old Dudley man who died from injuries sustained in a fall at a Brierley Hill care home has been adjourned to wait for a full report from the home’s management.

Frank Pearson, a retired HGV driver, died in Russells Hall Hospital on September 24, 2018, four days after a fall in the toilet at Amberley Care Home in Stourbridge Road, Brierley Hill.

Resuming the inquest – which was opened on October 2 – at Black Country Coroners Court in Oldbury, assistant corner Emma Serrano demanded more details on Mr Pearson’s care plan and fall assessments from care home representatives.

The inquest – attended by several members of Mr Pearson’s family – heard he was on his own in the toilet when he fell, despite his care plan stating he needed supervision while walking with his frame.

However, when the care home representatives present were unable to answer questions about Mr Pearson’s care plan, mobility history and risk assessments, Ms Serrano adjourned proceedings.

Turning the session on November 14 into a pre-inquest review, she ordered a full report from care home bosses by November 28, with the inquest rearranged for December 17.

Ms Serrano said: “I am adjourning this inquest until a full report can be supplied in relation to the investigation of this incident and the issues that have been raised here today.

“What we need to be able to establish is the procedure in place to reduce the risk of a fall and what happened after the fall.”
