A GROUP of civic minded residents have united to clean up a Dudley beauty spot.

The Saltwells Clean and Green Group set to work for the first time on November 24, where volunteers united to collect a dozen large bags of rubbish and fly tipping debris around the Saltwells Lane and Heath Road area.

The group formed as a result of discussions on the Save Saltwells Nature Reserve Facebook, a page set up for residents to organise against the proposed development of homes on the reserve.

After residents Avril and Ollie Leather received positive comments on their photos of a litter pick on the group, a few members decided to meet up and see what they could do to improve the area.

Councillor Chris Barnett explained that the group grew out of the save Saltwells campaign.

He said: "It's a good group of people enjoying working together who are keen to get things done."

"They all have a real love and a real passion for the place."

Future events will be organised on the Saltwells Clean and Green Facebook page and the group will be undertaking clean ups in the Netherton and Quarry Bank area.
