A KINGSWINFORD man found to have a knuckleduster after he assaulted his former girlfriend has been spared further time behind bars.

Calvin Fearon had spent six months in custody since his arrest by police and that was the equivalent of a year behind bars.

Judge James Burbidge QC told the 28-year-old it was clear he had been intoxicated and acting aggressively and loud when he went to the property.

He said Fearon, of Bromley Lane, had also been agitated by other people inside the house and he "wanted to fight."

When his former partner tried to intervene she was struck by Fearon who, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told, had previous convictions for offences involving violence.

The judge gave Fearon a 12 month custodial sentence after he admitted assault and possessing the knuckleduster but he said that would mean his immediate release from prison.

Sophie Murray, prosecuting, said Fearon wanted to get at one of the other men at the house and in the resulting tussle his former partner had been struck about the face and head.

Afterwards she had maintained to police that she did not want him to spent any further time in prison for the offences.

Simon Burch, defending, said the former partner of Fearon, a tree surgeon, had been "enthusiastic" in trying to get him ejected from the house.

"She attempted to eject him, there was a scuffle and she suffered some injury." said Mr Burch. "He had been using the knuckleduster as a belt buckle."
