A STOURBRIDGE man who raided his father's home to get money to fuel his addiction to Class A drugs has been jailed for 20 months.

Judge Dean Kershaw told Jamie Bourne: "This was pretty despicable by any means, what you did was dreadful."

Bourne, aged 38, knew the property in Stepping Stones, Stourbridge, was empty because he had seen his father Mervyn drinking in a pub.

He smashed a glass panel to gain access to the house and pocketed two gold plated rings which were worth £100, said Geoffrey Dann prosecuting.

But a neighbour saw Bourne at the scene and knowing he was barred from the house and that the occupants were out he immediately contacted police.

Officers arrived on the scene and when Bourne finally opened the front door they found a large pile of loose change had been spread on the floor.

Bourne's sister Melanie then confirmed he was not welcome and Bourne was handcuffed and arrested, said Mr. Dann.

But he then made a break for freedom only to be found hiding in nearby undergrowth by the officers.

"You have been given a number of opportunities to address your drug addiction and you have failed to comply," said the judge.

He told Bourne: "You are by no means a stranger to the courts. You had been to the local pub where your father was. You realised he was not at home at a time when his wife was seriously ill in hospital."

The judge added: "You knew that yet you decided to go to the house and burgle the property. You were clearly there to steal what items you could sell. What you did can only be described as despicable and disgusting."

Bourne of Pebble Close, Stourbridge, admitted burglary, three charges of shoplifting, obstructing a police officer and failing to surrender to bail.

The judge further made a five year restraining order forbidding Bourne from having any contact with his father and sister and from going anywhere near the Stepping Stones property.
