A GORNAL man who was savagely beaten with a pole outside his house has criticised the police for their lack of support in investigating his case.

Barry Brittle, aged 44, was attacked by an unknown assailant as he made the short walk from his front door to his car as he left to go to work on Bayswater Road, Lower Gornal on January 10.

Over one month on from the attack, in which he was bludgeoned with a metal pole seven times including to his head, Mr Brittle is still suffering from blackouts and dizziness.

The father-of-four said: "I had an appointment to see a neurologist and they said that the area of the brain that deals with balance has been affected.

"It feels like I've got vertigo. It’s a terrible feeling, it feels like everything is spinning."

The attack has had emotional as well as physical consequences for Mr Brittle, as he no longer feels safe leaving his house in the morning.

He said: "I'm scared to walk down the drive. I need more security on my house.

"I've been through a lot in my life but this has really affected me."

The savage attack left Mr Brittle needing 15 stitches to his head and fractured his shoulder in three places, for which he is still wearing a sling.

Despite having CCTV footage of the attack, the attacker has not been found by police.

He said he was 'disappointed' with the police, who he says have not been in contact with him since he made his statement after the attack.

Mr Brittle claims he was told by police that had he been killed in the attack, resources would have been used to blow up the CCTV footage.

He says he was told 'If you would have died you would have had 40 officers on your case.'

Mr Brittle said he was frustrated and concerned with the delay, as the man who attacked him is still out on the streets.

He said: "This guy is going to do something similar to someone else."

In a bid to find the man who attacked Mr Brittle, his workplace in Lye has put up a reward.

His colleagues at the Vanguard Foundry in Lye is offering a £10,000 reward to find the man responsible.

A police spokesperson said: "Enquiries remain on-going into the Bayswater Road assault including CCTV enquiries."
