Two teenage murderers have been jailed for at least 20 years each today for stabbing a father-of-two to death above a Dudley shop.

Dontay Ellis and James Peake were jailed for life with a minimum 20-year term for the murder of Jaskaran Kang.

The 24-year-old was left to bleed to death after he was repeatedly stabbed by 19-year-old Ellis and 18-year-old Peake, who were at the victim's flat above Dudley Wines in Stourbridge Road searching for cash and cannabis.

Carrying weapons including a ‘Rambo sword’ and a zombie knife, the teenagers burst into his flat demanding drugs and money.

Ellis, of Central Drive, Lower Gornal, was jailed for life with 20 years minimum term for murder and conspiracy to rob at Birmingham Crown Court.

Peake, of Southgate Way, Dudley was also jailed for life with 20 years minimum term for murder and conspiracy to rob.

Joshua Campbell, 18, of King Edmund Street, Dudley, was jailed for 10 years for conspiracy to rob.

Michael Cunningham, 18, from Newcastle-under-Lyme was detained for six years and six months for conspiracy to rob.

Detectives established Mr Kang and his friend had been dealing cannabis.

The pair worked at Dudley Wines and More on Stourbridge Road, and lived in a flat above the shop.

Kang would take phone calls from people wanting to buy cannabis, before asking his flatmate to bring it down from a box in the loft.

CCTV showed four men leave a Ford Focus after it parked up on nearby Spring Parklands at around 2.15am on the morning of the killing.

The men, each carrying weapons and wearing balaclavas, walked to the shop’s side door before kicking it off its hinges.

Mr Kang told his friend to hand over the drugs.

The gang took the drugs, but stabbed Mr Kang multiple times before fleeing.

CCTV, DNA and mobile phone evidence helped identify the gang.

Det Insp Justin Spanner, who led the investigation, said: “This was a ferocious attack, using an appalling array of weapons.

“There can be no justification for this kind of violence and homicide detectives worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”
