A SPECIALIST ambulance team had to be called to help remove a patient from a flat in Halesowen.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) team to Bredon Court flats, off Andrew Road, on Saturday (April 13) after being called by the fire service.

A male patient was removed from the third floor and taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said it was called at 11.35am to to a property off Andrew Road to a medical case due to "access and egress" issues.

It sent the HART team, which deals with issues where access is an issue, ambulances and a paramedic officer.

A fire crew also attended - the patient was taken to Russells Hall Hospital. The ambulance service spokeswoman said it was a non-life threatening case.

She said she could not comment any further on the details of the case. 

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said a crew from Wednesbury attended the incident and was called at 11.31am.

He said: "We were in attendance and helped the ambulance service with a male casualty on the third floor - getting them out of the building - at which point the HART team took over."

The hazardous area response team (HART) is an NHS ambulance service initiative devoted to providing medical care in difficult circumstances and is sent to incidents such as collapsed buildings, patients at height or in confined space, water rescue, and flooding, firearms incidents and explosions.
