A PUBLIC meeting has been organised as part of a plan to save Stourbridge College from closure.
Councillor Pete Lowe has embarked on a fight to try to save the Hagley Road college from axe-wielding Birmingham Metropolitan College which announced to shocked staff on Thursday May 2 that it would be pursuing plans to close the campus this summer as part of efforts to pay off debts.
Bosses at BMet, which took over the college in 2013, have stressed the plan is "in the best interests" of students but Cllr Lowe says he has been inundated with calls from worried parents and youngsters about the plan which would mean teenagers keen to pursue vocational courses post-school would need to travel to Dudley or Halesowen Colleges.
The Lye and Stourbridge North Labour councillor has been speaking to trade union representatives and has now called a public meeting which will take place at Stourbridge Town Hall on Wednesday May 22 starting at 7pm.
Further details will be posted on cllr Lowe's Facebook page 'Pete Lowe - Standing Up For Stourbridge'.
