A BROMSGROVE councillor for Hagley says his re-election shows it is time for a change in the way the region is governed locally.

Currently the village is run by a parish council, Bromsgrove District Council and Worcestershire County Council.

However Cllr Steve Colella, who was returned to the district council in the recent local elections as an independent with a majority of 78 percent, says people are turning away from party politics.

Cllr Colella, who is also chairman of Hagley Parish Council, said: "It’s superb to be reassured that people have turned their back on the political rhetoric and party politics in favour of the independent person who is prepared to put people before politics and as one of the Independent councillors who now form the second largest group we will be building on this.

"It is clear to me that the current three tier governance operating in Bromsgrove is in need of changing in favour of a two tier system which includes Parish Councils being given more power to deal with local issues such as important investment in our infrastructure."
