In-form Alex Milton sets up Bromsgrove's win over Ombersley

The Boars bagged a 101-run success in Birmingham and District League Division Two after another half century from Alex Milton had set them on their way.

Milton's 56 helped his side to 187 all out at St Godwald's Park. The hosts shared out the wickets to bowl out Ombersley for just 86. Ashley Newfield was the pick of the Bromsgrove attack as he took 3-14 from his 10 over spell.

The win also sees Bromsgrove bounce back from their narrow defeat at Wolverhampton the week before.

Skipper Mark Evenson said: "We knew the last two games would be tough against Wolverhampton and Ombersley - two sides who have come down.

"We knew those games would be a good test for us and after narrowly missing out against Wolverhampton we're delighted to get the win against Ombersley.

"We had a bit of a wobble at the start but then the middle order and tail dug in and we were pleased with the score we managed.

"We then bowled, fielded and caught well, including some good catches in the outfield, to take the win.

"The bowling attack has been doing really well and hopefully the win will help with their confidence even more and we can build on that.

The Boars now go to second-placed Leamington this Saturday as the 55-over format begins.

Evenson added: "It's a format that hasn't always suited us historically but I think we have learned over the past couple of seasons to really stay in the game a little better.

"It's about understand that a winning draw and not losing these games is also important and can be just as important to keep the momentum going. We understand that a lot more now.

"Alex Milton has been brilliant so far this season so we can hopefully start to stick around with him a lot longer and help him get even bigger scores.

"A lot of players have got starts so far but they have not been able to go on. If we can correct that then we'll be in a position to chase totals and post totals that will win us games of cricket."
