A SECOND charity It’s a Knockout event is being held in memory of Kingswinford schoolboy Daniel Banner.

The family fun event will be held at Kingswinford Academy, Water Street, Kingswinford on Saturday June 8 and money raised will be donated to causes in memory of pupil Daniel, aged 12, who died two years ago after a brave 11-week fight with lymphoma.

Daniel’s mum Alison Banner said: “This year we are holding it at the secondary school which Dan attended. They have been extremely helpful in our preparations for the event and are donating the school for free."

She added: "The previous knockout was a great family fun day and people have asked me to do it again, either because they want a second go at it or they wished that they had taken part in the first event."

To find out more about the sponsored event or to register to take part go to www.danielbanner.com.

Mrs Banner added: "This year we are opening up the event from the age of five upwards.

"Children up 16 will only pay the child's price of £8 and adults - £15, but if they are over 1.4m tall they will take part in the adults event."

"The children's event will take place first, between 10.30am and 12.30pm."

Although the event is team based people wishing to take part can sign up as individuals and will be organised into teams on the day, she said - adding: "The main priority is to have fun."

People are asked to get sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues to help raise as much money as possible in memory of Daniel. All proceeds will be split equally between Birmingham Children's Hospital and Birmingham University for lymphoma research.

Participants can turn up in fancy dress if they wish and there will be refreshments and food available throughout the event plus stalls, a tombola and facepainting.

Anyone unable to take part but wishing to get involved can sign up to volunteer on the day.

To date more than £18,000 has been raised for various charitable organisations in memory of Dan, who died in April 2017, and Mrs Banner hopes ultimately to set up a charity in his name.

She said: "The money raised to date has been down to the generosity of family, friends and the community – without their support it would not be possible."

The first event of the day will kick off at 10.30am, with gates opening at 9.30am. Spectators are welcome for £1 - and free for children under five.

A West Bromwich Albion signed football will be among the prizes up for grabs at the event plus tickets to Birmingham City's first home game, and Bake Off contestant Terry Hartill will be baking a cake and auctioning it off at the end of the day.
