STAFF and parents at a Stourbridge pre-school are celebrating after the school received an 'outstanding' rating from OFSTED.

Greenfields Pre-School received the top grade from the education watchdog after an inspection in May, where the school was rated as 'outstanding' in every category it was assessed.

The school, based in Hill Street, was praised by inspectors for its 'inspirational' teaching and staff were said to share a 'mutual pursuit for excellence and have the highest expectations of children'.

The report stated how 'parents report extremely high levels of satisfaction about the quality of care and teaching their children receive' and staff 'place a high priority on building very close relationships with children and promoting their emotional well-being.'

The school was also praised for the 'excellent' progress children make, including those with special educational needs or disabilities.

The pre-school was previously rated as 'good' in its previous inspection in 2015.

Sylvia Nixon, leader of the pre-school, said: "This is a fantastic reward for the staff, Trina, Emma, Julie and Kerry, and I'm incredibly proud of them and the effort they put into making this a fun, safe and enriching environment for the children we have the pleasure of welcoming through our doors."

This OFSTED inspection will be the final one for Sylvia, who is retiring this summer after 28 years working with the playgroup and pre-school, including twelve years at the helm.

Sylvia will hand over the reins over to her Deputy Manager, Trina Davies later this year.
