The new chief executive of Dudley Council has revealed his excitement around driving forward the borough vision and recognising local people through the Forging a Future Awards.

Kevin O’Keefe, who took over as chief executive at the council in June, believes the vision for 2030 to gives the borough a great platform to build from.

Mr O’Keefe said: “The work that has gone on so far in getting the borough vision off the ground has clearly been a great success and I’m excited to be involved. It’s now vitally important that we put the energy into it to ensure we turn it into reality and help to forge a future for all across Dudley borough.”

The Forging a Future for All Awards are one way the vision is being brought to life and Newsquest, in association with the council, are encouraging nominations for individuals and businesses in the borough who deserve special praise.

Mr O’Keefe added: “Recognising the outstanding performance and achievements of people and businesses in our borough is incredibly important. Those leading by example need to be given the credit they deserve and hopefully it will encourage even more people to get involved.”

Nominations are now open for individuals and groups whose sterling work marks them as true heroes and champions of Dudley borough. The award categories, which broadly fall under the aspirations of the borough vision are: Improving the Local Environment (individual); Improving the Local Environment (group/organisation); Outstanding Contribution to Education; Young Achiever; Community; Healthy and Safe Communities; Travel Support; Rising Apprentice Star of the Year; Business of the Year; Visitor Attraction Volunteer of the Year; Visitor Attraction Lifetime Achievement; Town Centre Unsung Heroes of the Year and Digital Innovation Award.
