BORIS Johnson has appointed Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris as a government whip to help deliver Brexit by October 31.

Mr Morris joins chief whip Mark Spencer in the Government Whips Office after being appointed by Mr Johnson to help deliver on Conservative promises including Brexit and extra police.

It is the first time a Halesowen MP has been a member of the government since WW2.

He said: “I’m really pleased the Prime Minister has asked me to take on this role.

"The next few months are going to be vital to ensuring we deliver Brexit by the 31st October, which I am committed to helping deliver.

"There will also be important work to be done in recruiting 20,000 new police officers, supporting our NHS with the resources it needs and providing the funding that our schools require to deliver a first class education to our young people.

"I'm looking forward to being part of this challenge!”

Mr Morris tweeted that he was looking forward to the role.

The government has a team of whips who ensure members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own ideology or the will of their constituents and operate under the chief whip.
