A RESCUE cat which defied all the odds after being paralysed in a car accident has been flown from Cyprus to the UK to start a new life in Halesowen.

Era, who was about to be put down after becoming paralysed when she was hit by a car, was saved by local cat-lover Themis Demetriades, who nursed her back to health.

Stourbridge News:

She is now starting a new life with her owner Charlie James in Long Mynd on the Squirrels Estate, after being flown 2,159 miles from Larnaca to Manchester by TUI Airways.

Jet-setting Era made her epic journey on Friday (September 6).

Charlie, who works for TUI, instantly fell in love with Era after seeing her story on Facebook.

The 35-year-old said: "When I worked as a rep in Cyprus in 2014 I adopted a kitten called Napa from the streets of Ayia Napa and brought her home and I met lots of fellow cat lovers.

"There are lots of cats which need homes in Cyprus so I kept in touch with the Facebook cat community.

"I saw Era on Facebook and just fell instantly in love with her.

"Themis had become very attached to Era so he wanted her to go to a good home and trusted me with her.

"She's doing really well, she's like a little baby, her miaow is really sweet. She just wants fuss all the time."

After being told Era would never walk again, Themis was determined to do all he could to help her.

A few operations later and after lots of physiotherapy, Era made a miraculous recovery and is now able to walk again.

Charlie, who now works from the home she shares with husband Daniel James four days a week and one day in the firm's office in Luton, said the couple are keeping Era and Napa separate at the moment and will introduce them gradually.

She said: "Napa is the governor of our house, she's mine and Dan's Princess so her nose is a little bit out of joint.

"It may be a bumpy road!

"Era's doing great, she walks with a little bit of a wiggle, but you wouldn't know there had been anything wrong.

"She finds it hard to jump onto high things, but apart from that she's absolutely fine."

Stourbridge News:

The couple are animal lovers and Daniel, who used to work for TUI, recently started his own dog grooming business from the garage at their home called Dotties Dogs

TUI said it flew Era to be with Charlie with the help and support of ECS and Swissport
