WORK has started on a flood alleviation scheme in St Asaph.

The work, which aims to reduce the flood risk to residents living in properties in the Glascoed Road area, is taking place at the junction of Lower Denbigh Road and Glascoed Road.

The Plas Roe culvert, located between Lower Denbigh Road and the junction with Glascoed Road will be replaced with a new concrete box culvert.

Residents and motorists are being advised that three way traffic lights systems will be in place for two weeks.

This will be followed by the closure of Lower Denbigh Road from the October 2 for a period of up to eight weeks. Traffic will be diverted and signs will be in place.

Cllr Brian Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Highways, Environmental Impact, Waste and Sustainable Travel, said: “We have made a firm commitment in our Corporate Plan to take action to try and prevent flooding and reducing the risk of flooding to homes and businesses through effective flood risk management.

“We hope the works being carried out will alleviate some of the historic flooding problems experienced in this part of St Asaph and will offer some peace of mind for local residents.

“The Council also wanted to give notice in advance of the works, especially with the closure of the Lower Denbigh Road in early October.

“We would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation and apologise for any disruption caused by these essential works.”
