POLICE neighbourhood officers covering Blackbird Leys, Greater Leys and Cowley have been out with metal detectors as part of Operation Sceptre, the national campaign to tackle knife crime.

Thames Valley Police officers have been using the detectors to search bushes and hedgerows in the area.

In a knife crime crackdown by the force in March 686 knives were handed in across the Thames Valley - down from 733 surrendered last year.

In Oxfordshire 345 knives were handed in overall. TVP Oxford tweeted: “Please don’t just rely on us to find potential weapons though; - look online to find YOUR nearest surrender bin #LivesNotKnives.”
