A CAMPAIGN to improve safety for pedestrians at a busy Oldswinford junction continues to gain pace.

Members of the Oldswinford Cross Safety Campaign are calling for a crossing to be installed at the intersection of Glasshouse Hill, Heath Lane and Hagley Road in a bid to make the busy road safer for pedestrians.

The team were at the junction on September 23 to encourage shoppers and parents on the school run to sign the petition, which has garnered almost 2,000 signatures since it was launched in March.

Kayleigh Cottam, a coordinator for Oldswinford Crossing Safety Campaign, said: "There have a been a handful of attempts to improve safety at Oldswinford Cross over the last few decades but the momentum is really with us this time.

"Since starting the petition in March 2019, we have attracted almost 2000 signatures both online and on paper, held a public meeting and have lobbied local representatives to support the cause.

"We will continue to keep on the pressure until Oldswinford Cross is safe for all who use it."

The team are set to meet with officers at Dudley Council next month to discuss next steps.

Andrew Tromans, who launched the petition earlier this year, said safety measures can also help improve air quality on the road.

He said: "'It is fantastic to see local residents organising themselves to make positive change in their community. I am proud to continue to support this campaign.

"It is my hope, that if the crossing is made safer more parents will feel able to walk their children to school thus helping alleviate some of the traffic problems near Oldswinford Cross whilst helping improve air quality as well."

The petition can be signed here, and paper copies are also available at the Oldswinford Coffee Lounge on Hagley Road.
