MERRY Hill will be transformed into a zombie-infested mall at a spooky film screening to mark Halloween.

Horror lovers can enjoy a screening of cult classic Dawn of the Dead at an out-of-hours event on October 27, where the centre will be kitted out to look like a post-apocalyptic shopping mall, complete with live zombies and spooky props.

The exclusive event has been organised in partnership with Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema, a Stourbridge-grown film project that brings unique community cinema events to the Black Country.

Sarah Dodds, assistant marketing manager at intu Merry Hill, said: “Halloween at intu Merry Hill just keeps getting bigger, better and scarier! We’re building on the success of shopper’s favourite The Halloween House pop-up shop with a horror film screening with local business Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema.

"We love finding new ways to surprise and delight our shoppers by adding new and exciting propositions and Marmalade will also be out on some spooky parades around the centre, which young families should keep their eyes peeled for.”

Daniel Kearns, owner of Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema, said: “We’re delighted to be able to host a screening at intu Merry Hill as it’s such a big part of life in the Black Country and it’s always fun to host screenings in unique, repurposed places.

“Horror is one of our favourite film genres, which is why we were honoured to take part in this year’s Into The Darkness Festival - and of course we’re thrilled to be able to screen Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, which has been cited as one of the best re-envisionings of a horror classic in memory.”

Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema will be hosting two other local screenings this month, including a Devil’s night screening of The Exorcist at the haunted Bonded Warehouse in Stourbridge on October 30, before returning to its regular monthly venue, Green Duck Brewery, for The Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Party on October 31.

The screening is part of the Midlands’ new horror and fantasy film festival, Into The Darkness 2019, which will see horror classics shown in various locations across the Midlands until November 17.

Tickets are on sale now at the Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema website.
