LIVE: South Normanton Athletic v Worcester City

Our live feed has now finished.

  • LIVE: South Normanton 1 (Hanslow 33) City 1 (Brain 27)
  • CITY battled to a hard-earned 1-1 draw at South Normanton Athletic with both sides likely to rue missed chances.
  • Sean Brain’s deft header was cancelled out within six minutes by Richie Hanslow’s heavily-deflected finish from inside the box in a tight first half.
  • The Shiners had more chances after the break but City still had their fair share, Brain twice denied one-on-one by keeper Curtis Hall while trying to add to his six goals in four games in blue and white.
  • Brain earned a free-kick with his back to goal on the left which was floated in by Liam Lockett for the poacher to brush inside the far post with a finish that crept in after 27 minutes.
  • City might have been two to the good had Joe Hawkins managed to judge a flicked-on corner at the far post, finding the side netting.
  • There was an element of fortune to the equaliser with Martin Smyth’s blocked free-kick lofted back in and nodded down for Hanslow to pull the trigger, his shot diverted the other way as Dan Jezeph dived to his left.
  • Brain was in on goal 10 minutes into the second half only for Hall to race out at his feet and while City had plenty of pressure playing down the slope, South Normanton looked dangerous on the counter attack.
  • Hanslow was denied by Jezeph with substitute Jack Tyson blasting over with 19 minutes to go and then Athletic had a triple chance with Dylan Garnett’s free-kick teeing up Oli Simpson to fail to find the target, Hanslow to have a shot blocked and then player-boss Marc Strzyzewski to be thwarted by Jezeph from point-blank range.
  • Brain was again free with five minutes to go but that man Hall was alert to his efforts again, while Simpson nodded past the post with Jezeph stranded as the clock struck 90.
