A POLICE officer has been seriously injured in the line of duty while attending a road crash in Oldbury.

The 52-year-old special constable was at the scene of a collision on Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury just after 10.30pm last night (Friday) with a colleague when he was struck by a passing car.

He suffered multiple fractures to his leg and was taken hospital where he was due to undergo surgery today (Saturday).

The 59-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

She has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
