LUCY Caldicott has been unveiled as the Labour candidate for Dudley South.

The newly selected candidate says her priorities are breathing new life into ailing high streets, investing in public services, creating more opportunities for young people and improving transport.

Ms Caldicott, who was born in Coventry, currently serves as a councillor for Lambeth in London and has worked for two decades in the charity sector.

Lucy said it was 'big honour' to be selected as the Labour candidate for Dudley South, where she will be hoping to unseat current Conservative MP Mike Wood.

She explained: "I was born in Coventry, I have friends and family across the area and my partner was born in Brierley Hill. People talk about parachute candidates, I am more a boomerang candidate."

With Brexit looming large in the upcoming election, Ms Caldicott says she supports Labour's position to renegotiate a Brexit deal before putting it to another public vote.

She said: "I support Labour's policy to take the deal back to Brussels to protect worker's rights and environmental protections."

She says a new deal and a vote are needed to tackle the 'mistruths' of the fractious referendum campaign and to avoid a no-deal Brexit.

She also cites her time working with young people for charities such as CLIC Sargent and Uprising as inspiring her to enter frontline politics to improve youngsters lives.
