SIR – The speeches from Greta Thunberg, The Prince of Wales and Sir David Attenborough at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos bring into sharp focus the urgent climate and environmental challenges that are harming our ecology and economy.

Away from the international stage, other national and local bodies are grappling with policies which support the 2050 net zero target on emissions in order to mitigate the impending environmental catastrophe.

Here in Worcester, the Green Party have reviewed their Vision for Transport in Worcester to emphasise the need to restrict the growth of traffic and ease congestion in the city, which is the cause of poor air quality and consequential respiratory illnesses.

Our vision can be found on the Worcester Green party website by following the link –worcestergreenparty.org.uk/assets/files/localparties/worcester/pdf/Green-Party-Vision-for-transport-19-09-19.pdf. We invite readers to submit their views or suggestions on our website.

Our vision takes a pragmatic approach that promotes healthier modes of transport such as walking and cycling, and recognises the role of public transport and also the need for infrastructure investment where it has demonstrable environmental benefits.

Extracts from our vision were also submitted to the county council’s recent Passenger Transport Strategy Consultation exercise to support Worcestershire’s Local Transport Plan and we await feedback on our ideas.

Our aim is to establish a cross-party forum involving stakeholders from the county and city councils, bus operators, schools, colleges, local employers and private individuals to achieve a consensus and implement an action plan to make our city cleaner and greener.
