POLICE swooped on Quinton to arrest a man who was thought to have a gun.
Officers arrested a 20-year-old man on Hagley Road West at about 2pm yesterday (Monday).
The suspected gun turned out to be an imitation firearm.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A 20-year-old man was arrested on Hagley Road West on suspicion of stealing a car from Stechford earlier in the day and possessing an imitation firearm.
"He remains in police custody."
Witnesses took to Facebook after seeing unmarked police cars swoop on Hagley Road West near Quinton Methodist Church and officers closing the road.
