It may have won classic car restoration of the year twice, but Classic Motor Cars based in a 60,000 square foot facility on the Stanmore Business Park in Bridgnorth is just as capable of looking after modern cars.

“What we are about,” said Managing Director Nigel Woodward, “is motoring excellence and looking after people’s treasured possessions, whether it’s a 1930’s Bentley or a modern Jaguar XKR.”

The company, which has been based in Bridgnorth for more than 25 years, won its reputation for restoring classic Jaguars and then other marques, before moving into other areas in an effort to look after the local community.

Nigel added: “ Many people for whom we had restored classics asked if we could service and maintain their modern vehicles. Our core philosophy at CMC is to carry out as many of our activities as possible in house; this gives us control over both costs and delivery dates in everything we do and enables us to pass cost savings onto customers.”

The company has the very latest in diagnostic technology in order to investigate problems, including the use of a Dynapack Hub Dynamometer which allows them to carry out engine set up, diagnosis and powertrain testing on site.

Nigel said: “The system allows real time engine performance analysis and carburettor or fuel injection tuning to be carried out with the engine installed in the car. It is particularly useful for optimising existing fuel systems, setting up new engines and fault finding difficult to trace running issues. Additionally, the equipment can be used to simply measure the power output and torque curve of any car whether it’s modern or a classic.”

But for CMC, which is an employee owned trust and is an integral part of the Marches Centre of Manufacturing and Technology, it is being part of the local community and encouraging the community to see and get involved in what is going on.

To that end CMC throws its doors open as many times a year as it can. On February 29th the company is holding a valuation day in preparation for its Great Garage Sale auction to be held on May 30th. Owners of classic cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles and automobile memorabilia are being encouraged to come along, have their items valued and enter them into the auction.

The May 30th auction will be part of this year’s annual open day. This year is themed around retro and modern classics, but all classic vehicles are welcome. The day will see a variety of activities; a classic and retro concours, a toy, automobile memorabilia and motoring art swap meet, workshop tours, classic cars clubs, general stall holders, children’s activities, food and drink including local craft beers and much more.

Nigel said: “ People always think of classic cars as being really old but many from the 80’s and 90’s are now falling into that category, so we want to encourage young people, many of whom own those vehicles, to come along and see what we are about.”

CMC will be holding a series of events where young people can visit the company and take part in a variety of activities and these will be announced during the year.

If you would like to take part in any of these events, have a stall or provide a service, then please contact CMC.
