A STOURBRIDGE schoolboy has designed a fundraising badge in support of NHS and key workers.

Omari Thompson, aged nine, joined forces with his sister Vontesse Betson to produce the CLAP badges which he is selling to support the two causes.

They were inspired after joining in the Thursday night clapping initiative.

Omari said: “I love clapping on a Thursday and know it is important that we respect the NHS and key workers.

“I wanted to do something to make people smile and feel happy and I wanted to raise money to help the NHS and Key Workers.

“I designed a badge with my sister so people who like to clap on a Thursday can wear it and show everyone how grateful they are.

“We wanted the word CLAP to be important so we made it stand for Community - Love - Appreciation - Pride.

“I think if workers will feel happy if they see people wearing my badge.

“I have a Facebook page where people can upload pictures of themselves wearing the badge and follow my progress and also a crowd funder page.

“I want everybody, everywhere to buy a badge so we can make even more people happy.”

People can find out more on the C L A P badges for NHS and Key Workers page on Facebook or C.L.A.P Badges To Support Our NHS And Key Workers on www.crowdfunder.co.uk.

His mum Claire said: “Omari really looks forward to doing the Thursday night clap, as he understands how important the NHS and key workers are right now during the coronavirus outbreak.

“When I came back from doing my essential shop, I mentioned how I wished the shop assistants knew how much I really appreciated their efforts and the same for the NHS workers I had seen shopping too.

“We came up with an idea to design a badge that could be worn, so that key workers who are still working in the community would know we support and appreciate them.

“Omari drafted some designs and his sister set to work using her design skills to bring his badge to life.

“We set up a crowd funder and have passed our initial target. Omari is researching local charities and the NHS to see how he can best distribute the donations.

"I am so proud of his kindness.”
