A DETERMINED Colwyn Bay school child has completed his mission to top Everest at home.

In just 56 days , Year 6 Rydal Penrhos Prep School pupil Cameron Pye has successfully climbed the equivalent of the world’s highest peak at his Rhyl home - one stair at a time.

Since setting out on his stair journey on Saturday, May 16, Cameron has raised £1,818 for the Welsh Mountain Zoo by the time he reached the summit on June 30.

While typically the ‘Stair Climb Challenge’ - which was set by Year 6 teacher Jamie McLeod - takes 3,781 flights of 15 stairs to complete, as his own stairwell only has 13, Cameron completed the climb in 4,466 flights.
