COUNCIL houses will be built on a garages site in Halesowen if proposals get the go-ahead.

Dudley Council wants to demolish garages and build three bungalows, creating a new cul-de-sac on Tenlands Road.

It has submitted plans for a four-bedroom dormer bungalow and two one-bedroom bungalows.

The proposal states that it would: "Replace redundant garage and external unsecured car parking spaces which could result in a base for anti-social activities, with social housing."

It goes on: "The site lies within an area of historic Council / Social residential housing with the application site originally providing garage and offsite parking, albeit as the majority of external area has been closed off by steel hinged barrier, it is assumed that this is surplus to parking requirements hence the planning application has been prepared for constructing residential units on the site."
