A STOURBRIDGE supermarket shopper was lucky to escape unhurt after thugs threw a traffic cone onto his BMW - shattering his sunroof and sending shards of glass into the street.

The 61-year-old man, who does not wish to be named, said he had parked his car in Market Street outside Waitrose while he nipped into the Ryemarket store for no more than 10 minutes at around 5.45pm on Saturday (July 25).

He returned to find a small crowd gathered close to his BMW 530d M Tourer and his sunroof obliterated.

The startled shopper told the News: "It transpired that moments before three youths had climbed on to the Waitrose roof and had deliberately launched a traffic cone at my car.

"The cone smashed through my glass sunroof completely shattering it and glass shards were everywhere."

He said the damage would run into thousands of pounds and he added: "If someone had been sitting in the car they would have been seriously injured, possibly killed.

"Although my sunroof was made of glass, the glass is black tinted so the person launching the missile could not have known if anyone was inside.

"I am told this is not the only incident at this location."
