A DUDLEY man was fined £120 after being caught with a knife on a bus in Stourbridge.

Cameron Hands, of Waverley Street, pleaded guilty to possessing a lock knife, without good reason or lawful authority, on a Stourbridge bus on April 26.

Magistrates ordered the 35-year-old to pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £100 costs at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 6. The court also ordered for the knife to be forfeited and destroyed.

Also before the court last week, a Brierley Hill man was handed a suspended jail term and was banned from getting behind the wheel for 18 months after a string of driving offences.

Wayne Ellis, of Norwood Road, admitted driving a Nissan Murano on the Birmingham New Road while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 1.

The 30-year-old was found to have 96 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was breathalysed on July 14 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance and was handed a 16 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, due to failing to comply with a community order. Ellis was also ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months and must pay a £122 surcharge and £135 costs.

Meanwhile, a Pensnett man was ordered to pay a £275 court bill for sending an offensive Facebook message.

Stephen Phillips, of Chapel Street, admitted sending the message which was intended to cause distress or anxiety to the recipient.

The 56-year-old admitted the offence at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 4 where he was handed a community order with an unpaid work requirement, along with a restraining order.

Phillips was also ordered to pay £50 in compensation, a £90 surcharge and £135 costs.

Also at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court, a Brierley Hill man was handed a 12-week prison term, suspended for 12 months, for assaulting a police officer.

Ross Fletcher, of Fens Crescent, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer while acting in the exercise of his duty in Wednesbury on May 9.

Fletcher, aged 22, admitted the offence at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 4, where he was hit with the suspended sentence and ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Over at Dudley Magistrates Court, a Stourbridge man was disqualified from driving for 18 months after drink driving in Brierley Hill.

Ngeeb Yafai, of Church Street, admitted driving a Renault Clio on Venture Way when he was found to have 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on May 24.

The 31-year-old was fined £173 and also ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and £185 costs by the court on August 7.

He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 18 months.
