A TRADE supplier looks set to take over a former phone shop on a retail park.

Toolstation would open its first store in Malvern at Malvern Shopping Park, off Roman Way.

The building was last occupied by Carphone Warehouse, which closed in April.

Toolstation said the proposed click and collect store, which would focus on selling pre-ordered goods for collection rather than allowing customers to browse, would be the ‘first of its kind’ in the UK and would create up to eight jobs.

“The coronavirus outbreak has seen a rapid growth in Toolstation click and collect sales, with internet sale of goods that are then available for collection at the stores network,” a statement said.

“In response to the success of this aspect of the business, Toolstation are seeking to roll out a number of smaller ‘click and collect’ units, this unit in Malvern is proposed to be the first of its kind across the UK.

“The area for customer access is small, at no more than 10 ten per cent of total floorspace. There will be stock displays in the customer area but no substantive sale of goods, with the focus on the collection of pre-ordered and pre-paid goods.

“The unit would be supplied from central warehousing but with the possibility to bolster this in the future by utilising the existing ‘trade counter’ store network nearby.”

The opening hours would be 7am to 8pm between Monday and Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sundays.

Mobile phone suppliers Carphone Warehouse closed its store in Malvern Shopping Park in April as part of more than 500 closures across the country - including a store in Worcester High Street.
