A SEDGLEY man was handed a suspended sentence for growing cannabis.

Brent Pearce, of Monument Lane, admitted producing a quantity of cannabis on June 4 when he appeared at Dudley Magistrates Court on September 15.

He received a 26 week sentence suspended for 24 months due to the number and maturity of the plants cultivated and was ordered to pay a surcharge and costs totalling £313.

Also in court last week, a Kingswinford man was disqualified from getting behind the wheel for 14 months after drug driving.

John Doran, of Oak Lane, admitted driving a Seat Ibiza on Kingswinford Road with cocaine and cannabis in his blood which exceeded the prescribed limit on February 12.

The 30-year-old was ordered to pay a £120 fine, £32 surcharge and £85 costs at Dudley Magistrates Court on September 14. He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 14 months.

Over at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court, a Netherton woman was handed a community order after assaulting a bus driver.

Anna Downton, of Castleton Street, admitted assaulting the National Express driver in Birmingham on March 9.

She also pleaded guilty to stealing items to the value of £73 from Lidl on March 14 and shoplifting from Church View Pharmacy between August 4 and 7.

The 35-year-old admitted the offences on September 12 where she received a community order with a rehabilitation requirement. She was also ordered to pay surcharge and costs totalling £225.

Meanwhile, a Dudley woman was barred from getting behind the wheel for 22 months after drink driving in Oldbury.

Caroline Jenkins, of Ardley Close, admitted driving a Mazda over the legal alcohol limit on Pine Road on March 20. She was found to have 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Appearing at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on September 11, the 49-year-old was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 22 months, was fined £150 and ordered to pay a £32 surcharge and £135 in costs.

Also before magistrates, a Brierley Hill man was handed a court bill after twice snatching a bottle of WKD in Wordsley.

Luke Jones, of York Avenue, admitted stealing a bottle of WKD from a One Stop on March 8 and pleaded guilty to snatching the drink on March 19.

The 35-year-old received a six-month discharge and was ordered to pay compensation, surcharge and costs totalling £174.53 at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on September 11.
