A DROITWICH resident says a well used path has become “totally neglected” over several years, and is now a “disgrace”.

Sylvia Whittaker has highlighted the problems at Scholars Walk, that is a popular path as it runs between Chawson First School and Witton Middle School.

The Waveney Road resident, who walks her dog daily along the path, said: “The pathway which leads to the schools is so overgrown no one can walk on it in places.

“It is also used by elderly residents from Copcut Court and they find it difficult to walk along.

"Leaves have not been cleared for several years so piles of dead leaves also cover the pathway.

"The subway, under Blake Avenue, has four drains all of which are blocked by overgrown grass, weeds and rubbish.

“The pathway itself under the subway is filthy as when it rains it washes all the soil down and of course because the drains are blocked it settles on the pathway itself.

“All the grass is mowed, but they don’t do anything else. It has become such a scruffy area.”

Droitwich West Councillor Richard Morris said he and his brother David, who is also a councillor, were now raising the matter with the town council and county council highways.

He explained there had been issues determining whose responsibility it was, but said that would be no consolation to residents who just wanted it sorted.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said: “An inspection of Scholars Walk was completed in July 2020 along with Droitwich Town Council.

"We identified areas that needed to be cut back and informed the respective landowners, who have scheduled for the works to be completed.

"We will reinspect to ensure all works has been finished.

"Any areas that are still overgrown will be attended to by the Worcestershire County Council along with Droitwich Town Council.

"A service request has also been placed with Wychavon District Council to sweep the footway.

"Following a request raised by a highways inspector earlier in the year, our contractor attended the underpass at Blake Avenue and cleared all four drains.

"However, we will happily reinspect the site to ensure they are still clear and in working order.”
