WORCESTER News readers are split on if a second national lockdown is now needed.

On the paper's website we ran a poll asking 'Should there be a second national lockdown'.

In the final result, of the 816 votes cast, 54 per cent said yes, 46 per cent said no.

But in a poll of the paper's Twitter followers - of 468 votes cast - 53.6 per cent said no, while 46.4 per cent said yes.

And readers also gave mixed views.

Hannah Fennell said: "No way I want this happening again."

Paul Smith wrote: "Absolutely no."

Brodie Adams said: "If we go into another lockdown the economy will struggle even more.

"I think we need to shield the most vulnerable and then let people get herd immunity. Hurry up and get a vaccine ready."

Bernard Mills said: "No the data does not warrant it, we are being panicked into a lockdown."

But Steve Mezzone said: "If you don’t want it happening again then follow the rules, or we all have to face the consequences."

Kells Trevis said: If people don't want another lockdown then follow the rules.

"It does annoy me that those who do follow the rules are called 'sheep' just for trying to protect their loved one's."

Annie Dunbar said: "If people would adhere to the rules there wouldn't be the need for lockdown.

"Young people think they will be fine if they get it but what about their families, older people are more likely to get it and may die."

Kate Bennett said: "As it stands there are far too many people that think the current rules don’t apply to them.

"It’s common sense that following these rules will help reduce transmission so that further lockdowns won’t be necessary."

Paul Ski said: "Whatever it take to get us pass this - let’s just unite and work together," while James Neale Senior added: "I wouldn't welcome it but if it had to be done if course we'd do it."
