A 72-YEAR-OLD Stourbridge man has been left "flabbergasted" after winning a £40,000 classic American sports car in a prize draw.

Colin Dixon entered the competition after researching classic cars online and stumbling across the Bridge Classic Cars Competition website.

He bought himself a single ticket, costing £7.50, and couldn't believe his luck when his name was revealed during the live draw as the winner of a 1966 Ford Mustang GT worth more than £40,000.

Colin said: “I was flabbergasted to be honest.

“It’s not every day someone rings you up to tell you you’ve won a car.”

It must have been fate as the Mustang’s registration number GVU 548D even matched Colin’s birth date - the 5th of the month, 1948.

Colin admits to having won a few competitions in his lifetime, but never anything like this which he described as a "dream come true".

Stourbridge News:

The iconic all-American sports car has now become the talk of the street.

Colin, who grew up in Smethwick, said: “When you have a car like this, everyone wants to ask questions about it. No one walks past it and doesn’t take a look, I’m always getting stopped.”

The competition was organised by Bridge Classic Cars based in Woodbridge, Suffolk, which has been running monthly prize draws.

Craig, founding director of the car company, said: “We set up the competitions this year to give people the opportunity to own their very own classic car for just a few pounds.

“We are delighted Colin won our 1966 Mustang, it could not have gone to a more deserving gentleman.”

Colin, who has entered every competition organised, said: “They’re a fantastic company and lovely people to deal with."

He admits he has always had a soft spot for classic cars and some years ago he bought a 1979 MG Midget as a restoration project to keep him busy into retirement - although he has yet to retire,

Still working, despite passing retirement age, he was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations commemorating those still working past the ripe old age of 70.
