With regional football very much the theme on the Beacon Sunday Football League this season, newcomers Woodside Inn have made strong start for the Western crown, writes Dave McLean.

The Kingswinford based outfit followed up an opening day triumph in the Concentric Sales & Lettings sponsored section by hitting visiting Wrens Nest Rangers for six to retain their 100 per cent record as Aaron Lloyd (two), Ben Hickman, Reece Harper, Joe Colley and Si Hamlett found the net.

It was also two wins in two starts for Sedgley Sporting (formerly Sedgley & Gornal United) as they emerged 3-0 winners at Sporting Black Country with Brad Lewis (two) and Dominic Thompson. It was five in two games for Lewis.

Having finished rock bottom in the second tier last season with just two wins, Coseley FC recovered from an opening day setback last week to defeat joint runners-up Dudley Rangers United, running out odd goal in seven victors.

In what was a derby thriller, Coseley opened the scoring when Dan Burns converted an early penalty. Burns added his and Coseley's second before Kane Lewis made it 3-0.

United were by no means out of it and a brace from Albie Turner, one from the penalty spot, closed the deficit before the interval. Early in the second period, Turner pounced again to complete his treble and level the scores.

As Dudley pressed for more, only to find stand-in keeper Harry Ellis in sparkling form, Coseley grabbed a winner in the final stages when Lewis found the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Last season's unbeaten Development Division champions CTS (Coseley, Tipton, Coseley) United, who lost to Claregate Park Rangers in the delayed flagship Lester Charity Cup final the previous weekend, opened their Western fixtures with a hard fought 2-1 success over visiting FC Premier 2014.

After an evenly matched goalless first half, Beckham Braizer put CTS ahead on 55 minutes. They held the lead until three minutes from time when Premier were awarded a penalty and Mason Heard levelled the scores.

In a thrilling finale it was CTS who eventually secured maximum points when Braizer notched his and United's match winner with just seconds to spare.

Newly crowned Clinton Cup winners Sedgley Rangers have, as yet, failed to repeat their recent knockout form and they slipped to a second successive 5-2 league defeat, this time at the hands of new boys Netherton Tigers.

Netherton took a 3-0 lead into the interval, before making it a nap hand in the second half. Sharing the goal glory for the Tigers were Luke Fellows, Declan Fellows, Chris Price, Curtis Wedgeberry and Dean Powrs, while Greg Corbett and Connor Hoban replied.

Jack Hill emerged a hat-trick hero for another new Beacon member, Coseley based Blades FC as they got the better of AFC Sporting Gornal 4-3. George Telekji also grabbed a vital goal for the Blades, with Grant Davies (two) and Cory Massey responding.

Three days after celebrating victory in the Chell Cup final, Trysull Athletic (formerly Tigers) made it two successive league victories in the Paycare Eastern Division, chalking up a 6-1 win over visiting Black Country Fusion Development.

Inflicting the damage were Dan Lloyd-Hickman (three), Will Spruce (two) and Tom Hudson, the consolation netted by Kian Lloyd.
