A STOUBRIDGE primary school is closing until after half term after more positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed.

Gig Mill Primary told parents at the end of school today (Wednesday October 21) that it would be closed from tomorrow until after half term.

The school, which is on The Broadway in Norton, will not reopen until Tuesday November 3.

A letter to parents on the school's website states: "We've been made aware of two further members of our school community who have tested psitive for COVID 19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England."

It goes on: "The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"In line with national guidance, and in order to keep all our school community safe, any potential staff contacts will be required to isolate for 14 days.

"Therefore the LA have agreed and support the closure of Gig Mill Primary School from the end of the school day today.

"School will reopen on Tuesday 3rd November."

Stourbridge News:

A parent who didn't wish to be named said: "What about parents who work? It's very short notice to find childcare.

"Parents were told children were being taught in separate year group bubbles to ensure that whole schools didn't have to close."

The News was informed earlier this week that one class bubble from the school had been told to self-isolate after one individual at the school tested positive. It is not known if the individual was a teacher or a pupil.
