Children across the Black Country are being invited to enter a creative writing competition at the start of a big reading campaign backed by top authors and publishers.
The Connecting Stories campaign will also involve book donations to children across the area.
The campaign is backed by the National Literary Trust and the Black Country hub is one of 14 across the country aiming to improve literacy.
The first activity is the writing competition aimed at 7 to 11 year olds.
Children will be asked to create a piece of writing based on the theme ‘Our Journeys.”
Every child who enters will get a certificate and the chance to have their work published in an anthology and displayed in local community cultural institutions across the area.
There will also be book prizes for the winning entries.
More activities are planned for later in the year.
The campaign is supported by publishers Bonnier Books UK, Old Barn Books, and Simon Schuster UK, plus authors A. M. Dassu, Benjamin Dean, and Raj Kaur Khaira.
The publishers will be donating books and the three authors will be taking part in virtual school events and promoting various literacy related activities.
