A POLICE investigation is under way after a man was attacked in Dudley.

Smith Street remains cordoned off this afternoon (Friday, February 19) following an assault which resulted in a man suffering "serious head injuries".

Emergency services, including police cars, two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car, were called to the scene near to Buffery Park at around 10.30am.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 10.35am to reports of an assault in Buffery Road, Dudley.

"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found one patient, a man. He was treated for potentially serious injuries and was conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”

Police have confirmed an investigation is under way and officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forwards.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted on Smith Street, Dudley around 10.30am this morning.
